About

Hello!

Welcome to Collecting Egypt!

My name is Bev Rogers.

I obtained my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Egyptology in 2006 and am now undertaking a Masters in death, Religion and Culture at the University of Winchester.

My research interests include the history of Egyptology, ancient Egyptian funerary customs, the role and identification of Victorian collectors of Egyptian antiquity, Egyptology in the 19th and early 20th century and the representation and display of Egyptian mummies.

I lecture widely on both ancient Egypt and local history and am the Event Officer for the Friends of the Egypt Centre, here in Swansea.  When I get some spare time, you can find me walking my dog Sam, at the theatre, in the cinema or learning to play the ukulele.

Collecting Egypt is a blog dedicated to a variety of aspects related to Egyptology and the collecting of ancient Egyptian artefacts.  This includes news on excavations, discoveries, exhibitions, research, the history of collecting, object finds, museum reviews, book reviews and anything else which takes my fancy from time to time.  Occasionally I may venture into other eras of history as the mood takes me!

I began this blog as a way of overcoming 'writer's block'.  I am pleased to say that it helped!  But, if I go a little quiet from time to time, please don't give up on me...it probably means that I have a deadline looming.  Normal service will always be resumed as quickly as possible :-)

Thanks for visiting!

Bev
